Belgium 2023 Art Nouveau
The obverse of the coin depicts a decorative detail from the facade of the Hotel Van Eetvelde, a legendary building in Brussels, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, designed by the Belgian Art Nouveau architect Victor Horta. Curved, asymmetrical, like flowers, these decorative lines reflect the nature-inspired style of the art nouveau movement. This detail fills the lower half of the piece, leaving a space on the upper half where the words "ART NOUVEAU" are carved. On the right side, the initials of the designer Iris Bruijns.
The reverse of the €2 coin features the face value and the shape of the European continent.
The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.
