The overall effect reflects the diversity of sports represented at the Games. The coin thus highlights the universality of sporting activity.
In the background, curved lines evoke a stadium or athletics track, accentuating the effect of movement. Above the central composition is the inscription in Catalan: JOCS DELS PETITS ESTATS D’EUROPA, which means “Games of the Small States of Europe” in English.
