Estonia 2015 30 years of the EU flag
30 years of the EU flag
After the first three extremely successful
2 euro joint issues "Treaty of Rome" (2007), "10 Years of
Economic and Monetary Union" (2009) and "10 Years of Euro Cash"
(2012) this is now the fourth joint edition, which is issued jointly
by the euro countries.
In July 2015, the 19 euro-area countries
jointly issued a commemorative euro coin celebrating 30 years of the EU flag.
The designs show the EU flag as a symbol that unites people and cultures with
shared visions and ideals for a better common future. Twelve stars that morph
into human figures are embracing the birth of a new Europe. At the top right,
in semi-circle, are the issuing country, the years ‘1985-2015’. At the bottom
right are the initials of the artist (Georgios Stamatopoulos). The coin’s outer
ring bears the 12 stars of the European Union. The country name shows which
country has issued the coin.
