Italy 2003 Euro coins BU set
In Italy, the euro coin designs were subject to scrutiny by a national technical and artistic committee before being presented to the nation on RAI UNO, Italy's largest national television station. A different design has been selected for each denomination, chosen from masterpieces by Italy's famous artists.
The series of euro coins consists of coins of eight different denominations: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents, 1 € and 2 €.

On two euro coin is a portrait drawn by Raphaël of
Dante Alighieri, housed in the Pope Julius II Wing of the Vatican City Palace.
Edge lettering of the €2 coin: 2*, repeated six times, alternately upright and
inverted.
One euro coin shows the famous drawing by Leonardo
da Vinci, displayed in the gallery of the Academy in Venice, illustrating the
ideal proportions of the human body.

50 cent coin shows the statue of Emperor Marcus
Aurelius on horseback.
Portrayed on 20 cent coin is a sculpture by
Umberto Boccioni, leader of the Italian futurist school.
10 cent coin commemorates one of the greatest
triumphs in Italian art. It shows one of the most famous works in the world,
the "Birth of Venus" by Sandro Botticelli.

5 cent design features the Flavius amphitheatre,
which Emperor Vespasian began building around 75 AD and Emperor Titus
inaugurated in 80 AD.
2 cent coin shows the Mole Antonelliana, a tower
designed in 1863 by Alessandro Antonelli.
The Castel del Monte appears on 1 cent coin.
The euro coin series comprises eight different
denominations: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cent, €1 and €2. The euro coins have a
common side and a national side. The national side indicates the issuing
country. The common sides of the coins were designed by Mr Luc Luycx of the
Royal Belgian Mint.
They show images of the European Union or of
Europe and symbolise the unity of the EU. The 5, 2 and 1 cent coins show Europe
in relation to Africa and Asia on a globe.
You can use any euro coin anywhere in the euro
area.
