200th anniversary of the Count of Cavour’s birth

Camillo Paolo Filippo Giulio Benso, Count of Cavour, Isolabella and Leri (10 August 1810 – 6 June 1861), generally known as Cavour , was an Italian politicianbusinessmaneconomist and noble, and a leading figure in the movement towards Italian unification. He was one of the leaders of the Historical Right and prime minister of the Kingdom of Piedmont–Sardinia, a position he maintained (except for a six-month resignation) throughout the Second Italian War of Independence and Giuseppe Garibaldi's campaigns to unite Italy.

The coin commemorates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour, a key figure in Italian unification and early Italian liberalism, and the founder of the political newspaper "Il Risorgimento". It features a portrait of Cavour based on a painting by Francesco Hayez from 1864. The coin’s outer ring bears the 12 stars of the European Union.
