Pietro Vannucci, known as Perugino, was one of the Masters of the Italian Renaissance, an artist who greatly influenced his contemporaries and whose works still enchant anyone who happens to observe them today. The "Madonna with Child, Saint Sebastian and Saint John the Baptist" made in 1493 is an oil painting on panel commissioned by Cornelia Salviati, widow of the Florentine merchant Giovanni Martini, for the chapel in the church of the convent of San Domenico in Fiesole. Restored in 1995, color, light and perspective are considered significant.
The obverse of the coin depicts the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus, a detail from the painting "Madonna with Child, Saint Sebastian and Saint John the Baptist" by Perugino, conserved in the Uffizi Galleries (Florence). The inscription PERUGINO, the dates 1523 and 2023 and at the bottom the letter R, identifying the Mint of Rome, complete the coin on the left; on the right, around, the inscription SAN MARINO and below the initials of the author Maria Angela Cassol, MAC. Around the twelve stars of the European Union.
