Big Five series. In 2025, we started the Finland Big Five series with the brown bear. In 2026 we continue with part two: The Wolf. While the most wolf population in Finland are found close to the Eastern border, numbers have also increased in the rest of Finland. Throughout the whole country it has become more possible to encounter a wolf, although this animal doesn't usually show  itself to people. Let's take a closer look!

Finland chose three designs based upon motifs similar to those used before on national coins.
The motif on two euro coin comprises cloudberries and cloudberry flowers in a design by Raimo Heino. Edge lettering of the €2 coin: SUOMI FINLAND ***, where the * represents a lion's head.
The artist Pertti Mäkinen created a motif depicting two flying swans for one euro coin. The design was taken from his competition entry for a coin to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the independence of Finland.
1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50-cent coins: these show the Finnish heraldic lion in a reproduction of a design by the sculptor Heikki Häiväoja. The heraldic lion in a variety of designs has been used on several Finnish coins over the years, for example on the 1 markka coins between 1964 and 2001.

The euro coin series comprises eight different denominations: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cent, €1 and €2. The euro coins have a common side and a national side. The national side indicates the issuing country. The common sides of the coins were designed by Mr Luc Luycx of the Royal Belgian Mint.
They show images of the European Union or of Europe and symbolise the unity of the EU. The 5, 2 and 1 cent coins show Europe in relation to Africa and Asia on a globe.
You can use any euro coin anywhere in the euro area.
